Informed sources said renewed clashes in Aleppo’s Sheikh Maqsoud neighborhood today left a number of civilians dead and wounded. An activist said the clashes broke out after government forces subjected the neighborhood to heavy artillery shelling, worsening the humanitarian situation in the area.

Meanwhile, Human Rights Watch issued a statement on conditions in Aleppo, saying civilians face daily indiscriminate attacks that threaten many lives and compound their suffering. The organization called on the international community to take urgent action to protect civilians in the city.

Local sources reported severe shortages of food and medical supplies because of the siege imposed on the city several months ago, adding to residents’ suffering. The sources said many families can no longer meet their basic needs, worsening humanitarian conditions.

A resident of the area also said the security situation was deteriorating, with fighting continuing around the neighborhood, hampering relief efforts and making it harder to reach those in need.

Field reports confirmed that many families had been forced to flee their homes in search of safety elsewhere, while others remained trapped in their neighborhoods, raising grave concerns about worsening humanitarian conditions.

The Red Cross also expressed deep concern over the situation in Aleppo, saying humanitarian conditions were deteriorating rapidly and required urgent intervention.

Medical sources said hospitals in the city face severe shortages of medicines and medical equipment, hampering their ability to provide the necessary care for the wounded.

At the end of the statement, humanitarian organizations called for immediate steps to end the violence and protect civilians, warning of the consequences of continued conflict for humanitarian conditions in the city.
