Bahrain loses bid to block UK spyware lawsuit

The UK High Court ruled today that Bahrain cannot use state immunity to block a lawsuit brought by dissidents who accuse it of hacking their mobile devices.

Cybersecurity researchers have discovered a new spyware tool called FinSpy, which has been used to target smartphones since 2011, informed sources said. The tool was found to target multiple operating systems, including Android and iOS.

The researchers also said the tool uses advanced techniques to spy on users’ communications and personal data, raising privacy and security concerns. The tool was revealed in a report published by a group of experts in the field.

The researchers added that FinSpy may have been used in large-scale spying operations since 2020, increasing concerns among relevant authorities about its use by hackers or governments.

One researcher said: “The use of this tool poses a major threat to individuals and companies alike, as it can lead to leaks of sensitive information.”

Reports indicate that FinSpy was developed by a company specializing in cybersecurity solutions, but its identity has not yet been disclosed. Experts stress the need to take precautions to protect personal data and sensitive information from these threats.

One expert said: “Users must be sufficiently aware of how to protect themselves from these types of malware, especially as we increasingly rely on technology in our daily lives.”

In conclusion, experts called for stronger cybersecurity and greater user awareness of these threats to keep personal information safe. Effective steps should also be taken to combat such malware, which poses a danger to individuals and communities.
